As a gun owner, it’s important to protect your guns. Children, other adults, and even pets may cause accidental discharges if your guns aren’t safely stored. They could be stolen while you’re away from home, or a fire or flood could damage your entire collection.
Here at Grice’s we carry a lot of solutions focused on keeping your guns and those around you safe. There are cable locks, gun cases, and lock boxes. But the best solution for many homes is a high quality gun safe.
We have gun safes available starting at just $189.
What Should I Look for in a Gun Safe?
There are a lot of factors to consider when buying a gun safe. Features include:
- Fire Resistance
- Waterproof
- Electronic Lock
- Key Lock
- RFID Lock
- Capacity
- Weight
Disaster preparedness
Protecting your guns from fire and water is vital. There are a variety of different ratings available. Time and temperature resistance vary. Our safes start at 30 minute fire resistance, and some go up to as much as 90 minutes, providing ample time for firefighters to arrive on scene and put out the fire.
Locking mechanisms
Modern gun safes provide a variety of locks. An electronic keypad lock is a versatile solution that allows you to use a custom combination to access your guns. A key lock is a traditional option that’s very safe. RFID tags are a newer technology, but one that’s grown popular. Hornady has an entire family of safes which can be programmed to recognize the same tag. Using a key tag, wristband, or a sticker, you can unlock a safe in seconds.
Our gun safes come with key overrides. This is VERY important, as it provides a way to access your guns if you forget your combination or if the electronics fail. High tech solutions are great, but you don’t want to have to hire a locksmith or call the police to get to your guns if your electronic locks fail.
Capacity, size & weight
How many guns do you own, how much room do you have to store them, and how many friends do you have? Ask yourself these questions when you’re choosing a safe. It’s almost always a good idea to have a generous amount of space so you can store all your current and future guns. But you do need to measure your space to make sure your new safe will fit. It’s also good to consider weight; a heavier safe will offer better protection, but if you move frequently or have trouble finding help for heavy lifting, you may want to opt for multiple, smaller safes over one massive safe.
